On March 9, the first 24000TEU super-large container ship "MSC IRINA" built by Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangtze River Shipping Group, for Bank of Communications Leasing and Mediterranean Shipping (MSC) was named and delivered. The ship is currently the largest container ship newly built in the world, the largest container ship built in the history of Yangtze River Shipping Group, and also the largest container ship built by Chinese private shipping enterprises.
On the morning of March 9th, Ms. Cui Jiamei, the celebrity of the new ship, Mr. CH Giuseppe Gargiulo, the manager of the new ship in China of the Mediterranean Shipping Company, Mr. Yang Xueyan, the assistant general manager of the Yangtze River Shipbuilding Group and the general manager of the Yangtze Xinfu Shipbuilding, as well as leaders and guests from DNV Classification Society, the shipowner's on-site supervision team, and relevant departments of the shipyard, witnessed the ceremony. Ms. Cui Jiamei named the new ship "MSC IRINA", cut the cable for the new ship, threw champagne and sounded the whistle.
24000TEU super-large container ship is a new generation of super-large container ship with the largest carrying capacity and the largest loading capacity in our group, which is customized and built based on the operational needs of customers. The actual loading capacity is 24346TEU.
It is understood that "MSC IRINA" has a total length of 399.99 meters, a moulded width of 61.3 meters, a moulded depth of 33.5 meters, a cargo tank depth of 33.5 meters, a structural draught of 17 meters, and a service speed of 22.5 knots. It is classified into DNV Classification Society. The deck area reaches 24000 square meters, and the maximum single bay container stacking layer can reach 25 layers, which is equivalent to the height of 22 floors. It can load a record 24346 20-foot standard containers at a time, with a load capacity of nearly 240000 tons. It is a veritable "Big Mac" and "the strongest cargo king" at sea.
The ship adopts the optimal matching design of propulsion facilities such as a new type of invisible bulbous bow, large-diameter propeller and energy-saving duct, which fully reflects the fast performance and low energy consumption of the ship. Equipped with high pressure strafing fire extinguishing water cannon and cargo tank immersion fire extinguishing system, the fire safety performance of the whole ship has been improved.
This type of ship adopts a built on low wind resistance exterior design, an underwater air film lubrication system, and a shaft generator, effectively reducing the total energy consumption and fuel consumption of the ship, reaching the EEDI III energy efficiency index, and reducing the corresponding total carbon emissions by 3% to 4%.
At present, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has 6 container ships of this type in hand, all of which are built by Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of the group, in three batches through the same dock and double line. The "MSC IRINA" ship named and delivered this time is the first batch of first ships. This batch of ships was ignited and started on November 29, 2021, docked on June 7, 2022, drifted on August 10, and undocked on October 29. The total period in the dock is 144 days.
On March 9, the delivery of "MSC IRINA" was completed by electric signature. The new ship is scheduled to start its first operation in the afternoon of March 11.
It is reported that Yangzijiang Shipbuilding is one of the first shipyards in China to break the monopoly of South Korea and Japan to develop and build a new generation of large container ships of more than 10000 TEUs in batches, and is also the only private shipyard to build a new generation of the world's largest 400000-ton ultra-large ore ship and the world's largest 24000TEU container ship. It is understood that Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group currently holds 6 orders for this ship type, and it is expected to successively carry out river trials and complete all deliveries within the year.
